Industry

The industry of the region is represented by 619 enterprises, including 60 cotton-cleaning, 5 spinning, 7 flour-milling, 48 sewing, 20 salt-mining, 25 milkprocessing, 13 butter-mills, 17 canneries. In the structure of industrial output of the republic, the share of industrial production in the Khatlon region is 28.6%

In terms of specific reserves of hydropower resources, the republic occupies one of the first places in the world. This determines the main line of the strategy – the development of the republic’s energy sector. The total establishedthe capacity of operating power plants in Tajikistan is 5300 MW.

The Republic of Tajikistan is implementing an extensive program for the construction of hydropower facilities. So, in the Khatlon region on the Vakhsh, Kofarnihan, Panj and Amu Daryo rivers it is assumed construction of about 10 hydroelectric power plants, the installed capacity of some will range from 600 to 2000 MW.

 

Successful investment cases

In the last decade, generating capacities with a total capacity of 945 MW were built and commissioned, in including:

  • Sangtuda HPP- 1 – 670 MW
  • Small HPP – 28 MW; – 26 MW. Lines power transmission lines, including:
  • PT Lines – 500 kW 274 km;
  • PT line – 220 kW – 280 km. Substations 220- 500 kV with a total capacity of 2007 MVA including
  • PS 500/220 kW – 2 pcs, total power 1503 MVA
  • PS 220/110 kW – 4 pcs, total power 504 MVA and etc.

The volume of production and distribution of electricity, gas and water in JanuaryDecember 2015 in the Khatlon region amounted to only 238,677.1 thousand somoni

Yovon Cement Plant was commissioned in Khatlon region as a result of successful investment (71.1 million US dollars)

Iranian company “Sarob” as a result of successful investments in Khatlon Region (US $ 278.9 million) put into operation the Sangtuda-2 HPP

As a result of a successful investment (108 million US dollars), the Chinese company Zhongtai Xing-Silu is operating in the region.

Russian joint stock company Russia As a result of a successful investment in Khatlon region (624.1 million US dollars), the Sangtuda-1 HPP was commissionedю

 

Agriculture

Agriculture occupies one of the key places in the regional economy, providing industry with raw materials and the population with food. Total volume of manufactured products agriculture in 2020 in the region amounted to 16985.0 million somoni.

The region’s agriculture has a huge investment potential. The production of clean organic fruits and vegetables annually attracts a large number of domestic and international investors and businessmen.

Khatlon region has not so much extensive, but strong and permanent sales markets for manufactured products, including neighboring countries. In 2020, the indicators of foreign trade turnover with foreign countries increased by 9.5% compared to 2019

A number of enterprises of small and medium capacity operate in the region for processing vegetables and fruits for the production of juices, vegetable and fruit puree, fruit drying with subsequent export to the CIS countries, in particular to the Russian Federation, China and other countries.

At all international exhibitions and fairs, the products of the region are highly appreciated and corresponding awards. The main purpose of these exhibitions is the development and expansion of regional trade and economic interaction of entrepreneurs of the agro industrial sectors, stimulating and increasing the export potential of the private sector, including small and medium-sized businesses. In recent years, the Republic of Tajikistan has participated in such international agricultural fairs as: “World food 2016” (Moscow), “Agroprom Expo” – 2014 (Bishkek) and ProdExpo – 2015 (Moscow). During these events with Tajik enterprises signed contracts for the supply of our products.

Successful investment cases

With the support of international donors, international organizations and the local government body of the region has built and put into operation fruit and vegetable storage facility of more than 22.0 thousand tons has been built and local authorities intend to increase this capacity. Construction of trade and logistics centers is one of the new areas of investment application.
